AIRBORNE DIVISION PURPLE NAMED TO LENWOOD TUTTLE, 502 PIR - KIA HOLLAND!

This is a very nice U.S. World War II Purple Heart
Medal set in its original titled black leatherette presentation case
awarded to Sergeant Lenwood Tuttle, ASN 20111364, 502nd Parachute
Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division who was killed in action
September 22nd, 1944 in Holland during the opening stages of Operation
Market Garden. The Purple Heart is in near mint condition and is
beautifully machine engraved in small letter, “Lenwood E. Tuttle”. The
set is complete with ribbon bar and lapel pin. Accompanying this
beautiful set is Sergeant Tuttle’s Individual Deceased Personnel File
giving many detail of Sergeant Tuttle’s burial, effects found on body
at time of death and copies of correspondence between his widow and the
Department of the Army concerning repatriation and re interment of his
remains in the United Stated in 1947. Also included is a brief history
of the 502nd PIR with illustrations of distinctive insignia, campaign
participation, lists of awards and decorations and brief day to day
event chronology of Operation Market around the dates that Sergeant
Tuttle was killed. The Individual Deceased Personnel File gives
Sergeant Tuttle’s race as “White”, Religion - Catholic, Home State –
Worcester County, Massachusetts, Buried – Private Cemetery in Mass. by
request of Next of Kin. This medal serves as a noble symbol and
reminder of one brave soldier’s sacrifice and the resultant tragedy
brought to one of the many thousands of families who lost a loved one
on the field of battle in the defense of our freedom. The price of that
freedom is high and continues to be paid for in blood to this very
day.
