This is a beautiful French World War I Officer’s Grade of the Legion of Honor that is in excellent condition. The central medallion is of solid gold and without damage of any kind. The white enamel in the arms of both the obverse and reverse sides is absolutely flawless. The green enamel to the wreath between the arms of the planchet is missing from one leaf on the front side and two leaves on the back side. A small bit is also missing from the wreath suspender on the same leaf on both front and back. The ribbon is original to the medal and is mounted with the officer’s rosette. There is no fraying, stains or any other damage to the ribbon and it remains strong solid and with vivid color. The medal is complete with the original dual vertical pin assembly. Despite its very minor defects, this piece remains an excellent example of France’s highest award for combat valor as awarded during the First World War.
