This is a beautiful British World War II Defense Medal and 1939-1945 War Medal with MID palm group that was awarded to Corporal M.B. Smith, RAF. The group consists of the British World War II Defense Medal and the British 1939-1945 War Medal with bronze palm for a mention in dispatches. The medals and the MID palm are in mint condition and in their original tissue wrapping paper with official government transmittal form indicating the medals and insignia enclosed in the shipping carton. Also included is copy of the Supplement to the London Gazette dated 1 January 1945 which listed as Corporal M.B. Smith as being awarded a Mention in Dispatches. The brown shipping carton is marked, O.H.M.S. with the Official Paid postage stamp with crown in the upper right corner. There is a paper address label affixed to the carton that reads, Miss M B Smith 91 Allington Road Orpington Kent BR6 8AZ. Also included is a single Royal Air Force Corporals chevron on a RAF blue wool backing and a stamped brass RAF hat insignia. This entire grouping is in excellent to mint condition. British medals awarde to women are very scarce on the market and a group awarded to a woman who was sighted for a mention in dispatches is as scarce as they get. This group is worthy of addition research but is a significant piece of British military history as it stands. Absolutely a superb group!
