Here we have a beautiful German World War II Model 1936 “Spanish” Black Wound Badge in excellent condition. The badge features exceptionally crisp detail to the wreath, helmet, swords and background stippling. It retains approximately 75% of the original black finish to the obverse side and virtually all of the finish to the reverse side. Where the black finish has worn on the obverse, the brass base metal has been revealed. It has beautifully age toned and is now with a very attractive and mellow age patina. The reverse retains the original pin and catch assemblies both of which remain fully functional. A very attractive badge as awarded to members of the Condor Legion who were wounded in action. This popular style was carried over after the institution of the Model 1939 Wound Badge and highly favored by officer’s and senior NCO’s who can still be seen wearing this style badge in many contemporary photos taken late into the war. A beautiful looking example.
